Exalt Communications Announces Industry's First High-Capacity Wireless Backhaul Solutions with True Native IP and TDM in Global Bands from 2 to 40GHz

EX-s series enables cost-effective TDM to IP network migration using Exalt Universal Platform

CAMPBELL, Calif., Feb 5, 2008 – Exalt Communications, the leading innovator of next-generation wireless backhaul systems, today announced the launch and general availability of the split-mount Exalt EX-s series of licensed wireless backhaul solutions. The EX-s series is the industry’s only backhaul solution designed to optimize the performance of legacy TDM and advanced IP-based access and campus networks with continuously variable native IP bandwidth, in one single software configurable system.  With the addition of the EX-s series of radios, Exalt Communications now offers the most complete portfolio of carrier class, high capacity wireless backhaul solutions covering the most popular licensed and licensed-exempt bands ranging from 2GHz to 40GHz in three configurations:  all-indoor, all-outdoor, and split-mount.

Carriers and enterprises are in various stages of migration from TDM to IP networks as demand continues to grow for IP-based voice, data and video for both mobile access and fixed applications.   Most service providers will continue to operate extensive legacy TDM networks for many years, while building out new IP networks to support higher bandwidth IP-based applications.  Exalt has developed the industry’s broadest portfolio of licensed and license-exempt wireless backhaul products with both native TDM and native IP support to provide a seamless and flexible upgrade solution for all network migration scenarios. The Exalt EX-s series features native TDM and native IP, software configurable channel bandwidth and modulation, thereby eliminating the need for field replaceable plug-in modules and minimizing downtime.  Further, the software upgradeable capacity feature enables operators to follow the much desired “pay-as-you-grow” model as they expand and modernize their networks. The family of products also offer multiple software configurable interface options, including 4xT1/E1 up to 16xT1/E1, DS3, E3, 10/100BaseT, and 1000BaseT with comprehensive Ethernet networking features including advanced QoS and VLAN support.  Highly efficient modulation up to 128 QAM coupled with Exalt advanced signal processing technology result in maximum native IP and native TDM transmission capacities over the smallest available spectrum. Other benefits include low latency and high system gain which enable delay sensitive applications over long distances with minimum antenna size.

Exalt EX-s indoor units (IDU) are capacity, bandwidth, and frequency independent, and auto-configure to the correct frequency, transmission requirements, and capacity as controlled by band-specific outdoor units (ODU) in all popular FCC part 101, LMDS, and ITU/ETSI licensed bands from 6 GHZ to 40 GHz as well as license-exempt bands from 2.4GHz to 5.8GHz.

Other advanced features including highly secure SNMPv3, AES encryption, and Exalt link security coding provide the most advanced security technology suite available today.
