Ligonier Telephone Company Taps Exalt for Backhaul
Exalt microwave systems deliver higher reliability at significantly less cost than leased fiber lines
CAMPBELL, Calif. — October 22, 2013 — Exalt Communications, Inc., the leading innovator of next-generation wireless connectivity systems for private networks and Internet infrastructures, today announced that Ligonier Telephone Company (LTC) of Ligonier, IN has deployed Exalt microwave backhaul systems to connect wireless broadband service customers to its core network. The Exalt systems deliver higher reliability than fiber, and enable LTC to avoid costly leased fiber lines and reduce sparing costs.
LTC provides telephone, TV, and Internet services to customers in northeast Indiana. The company initially chose Exalt microwave backhaul systems as a cost-savings alternative to leasing fiber lines, but the Exalt links have proven more reliable than fiber. The all-outdoor Exalt ExploreAir 18 GHz systems deliver 200 megabits per-second of Ethernet bandwidth and backhaul Ethernet traffic from LTC’s fixed wireless broadband tower sites to fiber-fed towers. Because the ExploreAir systems feature Exalt’s unique field-replaceable diplexers, LTC has eliminated the high sparing costs normally associated with licensed microwave systems.
“We tried a lot of microwave systems, but there were always drawbacks,” said Mike Troup, Internet and marketing manager at Ligonier Telephone Company. “We have been extremely happy with Exalt systems, and they have certainly proven to be more reliable and cost-effective than leased fiber links.”
“Rural wireless service providers must reach remote tower sites within their networks, and fiber is often either non-existent or prohibitively expensive at those locations,” said Joe Schraml, Exalt vice president of product management. “Exalt microwave systems enable providers to own their networks, dramatically reduce CAPEX and OPEX costs, and deliver higher reliability than fiber. These advantages offer companies like LTC an edge in the highly competitive service provider market.”
