Exalt Backhauls HDTV Transmission for First Baptist Church of Albany

Video of Sunday services transported to local TV station using Exalt ExtendAir system

CAMPBELL, Calif. — July 2, 2013 — Exalt Communications, Inc., the leading innovator of next-generation wireless connectivity systems for private networks and Internet infrastructures, today announced that the First Baptist Church of Albany in Leesburg, GA has deployed an Exalt ExtendAir system to transport high-definition (HD) video of its Sunday services from the church to a local television station, enabling thousands of churchgoers to view Sunday services even when they can’t get to the church.

The First Baptist Church of Albany serves its congregation through various ministries and has broadcast its services since 1960, making it among the earliest religious TV broadcasters in the nation. For many years the church has operated with typical broadcast microwave technology, but it was looking for a cost effective alternative to transport high definition video to local TV station WALB 3.8 miles away to deliver superior broadcast quality. The church selected an Exalt system for its high performance, reliability, ease of deployment, and superior quality.

“Our engineer did a proof of concept with another company’s system, but it was cheap and plasticky, and it wasn’t made to withstand the outdoor elements,” said Matt Lampley, pastor of media and communications at First Baptist Church of Albany. “Exalt came in and demonstrated the ExtendAir system to our consultant, David Roche of Blue Hat Design, and we were sold. It’s a far superior product – high performance and ruggedly built – and we’ve been very pleased with it.”

Dean’s Commercial Two-Way of Cataula, GA installed the Exalt all-outdoor ExtendAir system, which delivers more than enough bandwidth to transport the HD video from the church.

“Broadcast transmission of real-time, HD video requires high bandwidth and reliability, and our all-outdoor ExtendAir systems are an easy and cost-effective solution to ensure its seamless delivery from one location to another,” said Greg Gum, Exalt senior vice president of marketing and business development. “In this case, the Exalt system provides the First Baptist Church of Albany a high performance, secure, and reliable transport medium for its streaming video and also eliminates leased line charges that would have been prohibitively expensive.”
