Exalt Unveils ExploreAir LR for Microwave Backhaul, Provides Industry’s Highest Capacity and Longest Range with Smallest Antennas

Systems transport long-haul traffic faster and further with highest availability and zero footprint installation

Mobile World Congress 2012, BARCELONA, Spain and CAMPBELL, Calif. — Feb. 27, 2012 — Exalt Communications today announced availability of its new all-outdoor ExploreAir LR microwave backhaul systems, featuring the industry’s lowest cost per megabit-mile, translating to longer range, higher capacity, and smaller antennas to reduce CAPEX and operating costs. With the unprecedented system gain of ExploreAir LR, mobile operators, wireless ISPs, cable operators, large enterprises, government agencies, and other service providers can use microwave antennas half the size, and less equipment overall, to send long-haul traffic further and with the highest availability.

These new all-outdoor systems, which further broaden the Exalt ExploreAir product platform, optimize long-haul IP communications, offering network owners and operators more ways to use microwave backhaul to quickly and reliably expand their networks over large geographic areas with minimal deployment and tower loading costs. The ExploreAir LR systems will soon be deployed in a number of carrier and enterprise networks including a large federally-funded U.S. statewide network serving government agencies, healthcare institutions, schools, and rural communities, linking remote locations spanning more than 500 miles. “There was a time when cost was not a consideration in evolving a network to support greater traffic loads and expanding reach. Today, reducing these costs is no longer an option — it is a mandate,” said Amir Zoufonoun, CEO and founder of Exalt Communications. “We have designed ExploreAir LR to alleviate the high costs previously associated with long-haul communications to provide network operators with a system that dramatically reduces CAPEX and OPEX while increasing backhaul capacity.”

“It’s not getting easier for mobile network operators,” said Jennifer Pigg, president and founder of Battle Green Research, a Yankee Group affiliate. “Mobile network traffic is growing at 30 percent or more a year while capital budgets are barely able to squeeze out an average annual increase of two to three percent. I am seeing more and more MNOs, including North American operators, turning to microwave backhaul solutions. Products like Exalt ExploreAir LR that can be deployed quickly, flexibly, and provide high-speed microwave backhaul with five nines of reliability — that’s what the MNOs want.”

Operating at all major frequencies in the ANSI/FCC and ITU/ETSI bands, ExploreAir LR features several technical breakthroughs and enhancements:
    • Industry’s highest system gain enabling smaller antennas and longer distances
    • Highest capacity in a single polarization – 740 Mbps full duplex in 80 MHz
    • XPIC-ready for even higher capacity, up to 1 Gbps
    • Fiber connectivity with coaxial DC power for protected long tower runs
    • 512QAM modulation with errorless and jitterless adaptive modulation (ACM)
    • Field-replaceable diplexers that can reduce sparing costs up to 90 percent

Pricing and availability
ExploreAir LR is available immediately with list prices starting at under $15,000 per link. For more information, visit Exalt Communications at stand 2F36, Hall 2, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, from February 27 – March 1, 2012.
