Oregon’s Eagle Telephone System Deploys Exalt Microwave Backhaul Systems to Future-Proof Its Network
All-Indoor Systems Solve Interference Issues, Provide Native TDM with Scalable Ethernet Bandwidth for Telephony, Wireless Broadband and Eventual IP Migration
CAMPBELL, Calif., April 21, 2010 – Exalt Communications, the company that is reinventing microwave backhaul, today announced that Eagle Telephone System of Richland, Oregon, has deployed its microwave backhaul systems to eliminate interference issues inherent in its legacy microwave network and to deliver scalable Ethernet bandwidth and to provide seamless TDM-to-IP migration in the future
“Our fixed-frequency radios were having interference problems in some areas of our network, and the Exalt systems allow us to address all three bands in the 5 GHz spectrum with the ability to tune in 1-Mhz increments,” said Mark Christman, manager of Eagle Telephone System. “Since we deployed the Exalt backhaul systems, we have had no issues.”
The Exalt all-indoor systems deployed by Eagle Telephone serve hops ranging from 2 to 32 miles in length, and are configured for 4 T1 lines and 10 megabits per second (Mbps) of Ethernet data traffic. The systems are expandable to 16 T1 lines and 100 Mbps via software upgrade. Eagle Telephone has recently begun offering wireless Internet services to customers in its 400 square-mile service area, and plans to migrate the entire network from TDM to all-IP within the year.
To remain competitive and better serve their subscriber bases, regional telephone service providers like Eagle Telephone must offer Ethernet services for broadband access and other applications while, at the same time, maintaining their legacy TDM services.
